Speech
Speech therapy focuses on improving the clarity, fluency, and effectiveness of spoken communication. I use a variety of evidence-based techniques tailored to each individual’s needs, including PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), which uses gentle tactile-kinesthetic cues to guide and support the movements needed for accurate speech sound production. Therapy may target articulation, phonological patterns, motor speech disorders (such as apraxia or dysarthria), fluency, and voice or resonance concerns. My goal is to help each client become more confident and clearly understood in everyday communication.
Language
Language therapy supports the development and use of understanding and expressing ideas through words, sentences, and social interactions. This includes building skills in receptive language (understanding spoken or written language), expressive language (using words to share thoughts, needs, and ideas), and pragmatic language (social communication, like taking turns or staying on topic). I utilize my Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory Approach training to help students strengthen their reading, writing and comprehension skills. For individuals with limited verbal communication, I incorporate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), including picture communication systems and the Tobii Dynavox TD Snap app. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s needs to support meaningful, effective communication across home, school, and community settings.
Feeding/Oral Motor
Oral motor and feeding therapy supports the development of strong, coordinated muscles in the jaw, tongue, lips, and cheeks to improve speech clarity and safe, efficient eating. I use a variety of evidence-based approaches, including My Munch Bug for responsive feeding strategies and TalkTools® for structured oral motor exercises that help build the foundational skills needed for speech and feeding. Therapy may address challenges such as drooling, limited range of motion, food refusal, difficulty chewing, or trouble transitioning to different textures. Each plan is tailored to help clients feel more comfortable, confident, and successful during mealtimes.
Consultation Screenings
Consultations consist of a 45-minute meeting with Darlene and your child to determine if speech and language services are appropriate at this time and/or if further formal assessment is necessary. Consultations are informal, therefore, no written report is provided unless asked for, in which case, an additional fee will be determined.
Evaluations
Evaluations involve formal assessments administered to your child over the course of one or more appointments. Evaluation cost and length will vary depending on the skills assessed (i.e., articulation, language, oral motor, feeding, and/or communication).
Individualized Treatment Sessions
Therapy treatment consists of 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions targeting one or more of the following areas of concern: speech, language, communication, oral motor, or feeding.
